BEST SUMMER EVER!!!

 Dear Val,

Summertime is the best time of the year. As I reflect on my 11 weeks  in Boulder, CO, I am thankful for a great opportunity to do summer research. I really embraced each challenge. I would like to thank NSF, UNAVCO, RESESS for everything. I met alot of great people. Most of all I learned a plethora of new things. I was very focused on my research project. The support from Dave, Val, Jason, and Yuri made everything so much better. I think the only choice we had was to do our best.

I remember when I first learned that I got accepted, I was so happy. I wasn't expecting this great outcome, but these days you never know what you are geting yourself into. The resources and opportunities that I was able to experience as a undergraduate intern was extraordinary. When I first started I was ambiguous about graduate school because it was a surplus of information I did not know. As the summer days continued to pass, I learned so much. The writing assignments was tough, but I had a lot of help. I was able to ameliorate my research skills because of the support of so many people. I know this experience will make me a better student. The RESESS EXperience will always be a part of me. Its something I will never forget. I have so much respect for my fellow interns because I know they all worked hard. I met some of the shrewdest and nicest people in my life. I think I am a better person because of this summer.

Thank you

First Week!!!!

I am currently working at NOAA under Dr. David Anderson in the Paleoclimatology  department. I really enjoyed the first week, I learned a lot and met some great scientists. Global Warming is a very interesting topic. My research project -Global Warming in an Independent Record of the Past 100 Years. We are gathering proxy data(ice cores, coral reefs and many other things from the environment). Also, from this data we are trying to find evidence of the earth's increase in temperature. It's amazing how scientist's determine the age and temperature from things in the environment. I will continue to challenge myself and learn more. I got a lot of help from Dr. Eugene Wahl this week. He was very helpful and encouraging. I see the passion and the knowledge that he has for science.

This summer is very important to me. I get a chance to do scientific research. During my 11 weeks  in Boulder, Colorado, I hope to improve my writing skills, public speaking, socially, scientific knowledge, and confidence. I know most people say, "find something you love and you will never have to work a day in your life." I think that, if you find something challenging you will never get bored and you will always improve. My aspirations for the summer is to  become a better scientist, do my best and learn as much as I can.

What a week!!!!!!

Leadership training was great. I really enjoyed the activities and interacting with the other interns. I learned a lot about myself and the interns. Dinosaur Ridge was very fun. The first week was awesome. I got my first filmed interview (almost famous).

Scavenger Hunt

Today we all set out on a journey. The goal was to get to 5 spots by 12:30. Our team only got to 3 spots. I really enjoyed the activity. Directions are sometimes hard to follow, but it helps when you have others to help you. We did not get lost, but we did get confused. I still think Team Boomshakalaka!!!!!!!!! was the  best. Overall it was a great learning experience.

ACCEPTED

I am so excited that I got accepted for The RESESS Internship Program and living in Boulder, CO. One of my goals this year was to earn an internship. I got the opportunity and I will make the most of it. I will continue to set goals and work hard. I have been counting down the days for my arrival to Colorado. I know this internship will challenge me. It will also make me a better student and future scientist. I remember when I found the information about the internship surfing the web. It really gained my interest. It offered so many things, the thing that stood out the most was preparation for graduate school and the support of interns throughout their research experience. I am ready to prove to  Dr. Sloan that she made a great decision selecting me as a RESESS Intern.
